After 2 months of non-stop adventure, the day has finally come: the end of TAP June-August 2016! It is with a heavy heart that I finish up in this role and say goodbye to the last of the junior students, having had an even more exciting and fulfilling experience than I ever could have imagined. I feel so privileged to have met such incredibly intelligent, fun-loving, worldly, hilarious and hard-working teenagers, with each of them having made a huge impact on my life. Through this role as TAP Coordinator I was not only able to get outside every afternoon and appreciate my hometown with a fresh pair of eyes, but I also got to work alongside an amazing powerhouse of a boss, Kiyo (the Junior Programs Coordinator). Lucky for me this meant laughs all morning in the office, backed up by even more fun in the afternoon with the students.
Aside from all the activities, perhaps the best thing about TAP was seeing so many international friendships form, with students’ English improving everyday so that they could communicate and joke in their second language. These students flew to Noosa from all over, including countries such as Switzerland, Tahiti, Belgium, Colombia, Japan, France, Taiwan, Austria, Reunion Island, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Mauritius – making a fantastic mix of nationalities and lifelong connections.
Thank you to all these wonderful students for teaching me about your own cultures, giving everything a go, laughing with me (and at me), putting up with my terrible attempts to learn some of your languages and for just being all-round legends. I hope you had as much fun as I did, and loved every second of your Noosa experience. I also hope your Tim Tam rations haven’t depleted too quickly at home!
I miss you all already, and hope to see you again one day! Until then, farewell and good luck! Enjoy some of my favourite photos below.
