Over the last week students studying at university and high school from Muroya English School have taken some time to make a few visits to some of the Sunshine Coast’s caring facilities.
A group of students have taken time this week to visit three of the Coasts centres that provide some form of care and service for either the elderly or people recovering from illness and injury.
The students are studying English at Global Village Noosa and have an interest in studying Medicine at a tertiary level in the near future.
A cutting edge program that has been uniquely designed by the staff at Global Village has allowed students the opportunity to tour and gain a better understanding of the services that are available to people who are in need of assistance.
This week the Students visited a nursing home in Noosa, The Carramar Aged Care Centre, where they enjoyed a tour of the centre and joined the residents for an afternoon tea party. The boys played cards with the gentlemen and the girls gave manicure to the ladies. They were well received and brought smiles to the faces of the residents.
Meals On Wheels is another service that the students visited this week. A voluntary food service that provides cooked and prepared meals for the elderly or injured people of the Sunshine Coast. The service is of a very high standard and makes over 300 meals everyday that are delivered hot to those in need.
The final visit was to the Nambour Hospital where students toured the children’s ward and then taught the children how to make Origami. The children were very happy with learning how to make a Crane a special bird that is significant to helping someone who is sick to get better in Japan. The students also talked about the story of ‘1000 Cranes’ a legend in Japan of a girl who made a thousand cranes for the sick children in Hiroshima.
From all the staff at Global Village Noosa, thank you to all the students for your care and interest in the centres you have visited this week. We wish you the best of luck for your future studies in medicine.
